Jed Blackburn, Toronto Office
Jed Blackburn advises clients in matters of advocacy and dispute resolution with a particular focus on commercial litigation, higher education, administrative, and employment law. He has worked with a wide variety of clients ranging from educational institutions to small businesses to multinational corporations.
David Budd, Vancouver Office
David Budd is a partner in both our Toronto and Vancouver offices and a member of our Financial Services Group and the Mining, Equipment and Asset Financing and Sports industry groups. As a member of the Mining group, David has worked extensively with both lenders and resource companies in the mining sector.
Xi Chen, Toronto Office
Xi Chen is an associate in our Business Law Group. Xi’s practice focuses on private and public mergers and acquisitions, internal reorganizations, private equity, venture capital, corporate finance and commercial transactions.
Belinda Chiu, Toronto Office
Belinda Chiu focuses on all areas of competition law, including merger review, abuse of dominance, misleading advertising, criminal and civil investigations, and regulatory compliance (including promotional contests). She also advises and assists international clients with foreign investment matters such as notifications under the Investment Canada Act. Belinda has worked with clients across a wide range of industries, including mining, technology, insurance, transportation, consumer goods, retail and manufacturing.
Jonathan Freeman, Toronto Office
Jonathan Freeman is a partner in the firm's Real Estate Group. His practice focuses on all aspects of commercial real estate law including financings, acquisitions, dispositions, property development, public/private infrastructure projects and commercial leasing.
Jennifer Hansen, Vancouver Office
Jennifer Hansen is a partner in the Securities Group working out of both the Toronto and Vancouver offices. Jennifer represents both issuers and investment dealers in various transactions, including public offerings, private placements and mergers and acquisitions.
Jay King, Toronto Office
Jay King’s practice focuses on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and regulatory compliance including corporate governance, continuous disclosure and Canadian stock exchange related matters. He has developed specialized skills in the mining sector, and also represents clients in the aviation, real estate and technology sectors. Jay routinely acts as counsel to both public and private issuers and investment banks.
Shannon Leo, Toronto Office
Shannon Leo is the Director of Practice Excellence - Associate and Student Programs, at Cassels Brock. In this role, she has the pleasure of recruiting, training and reviewing the performance of associates and students. Shannon is involved with coaching associates and students on performance, practice management and risk management and identifying and developing training and development opportunities for them.
Jessica L. Lewis, Vancouver Office
Jessica L. Lewis has a broad corporate and commercial litigation practice, with an emphasis on securities and regulatory matters, fraud and enforcement proceedings, corporate/commercial disputes and representation of financial institutions and investment advisors. Jessica has experience with international asset tracing, enforcement of foreign judgments and orders, letters rogatory and worldwide mareva injunctions. Jessica also represents clients in ligation proceedings involving fraud and breach of fiduciary duties.
Matthew Nied, Vancouver Office
Matthew Nied is an associate in the Vancouver office practising in insolvency and commercial litigation.
Matthew's insolvency practice focuses on commercial restructuring, receiverships and bankruptcy proceedings, while his commercial litigation practice focuses on shareholder and securities litigation, corporate arrangements, contractual disputes and tort claims. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia Securities Commission and the Provincial Court of British Columbia.
Matthew practised at another national firm prior to joining Cassels Brock and clerked for several judges of the Supreme Court of British Columbia prior to commencing practice.
Matthew regularly publishes articles identifying legal developments and their practical implications for industry stakeholders.
Alexander Pizale, Toronto Office
Alex Pizale practices in the area of corporate and securities law with a focus on corporate finance and merger and acquisition transactions. He has acted as counsel to clients at all stages, from start-ups to large cap public companies and investment banks in a wide range of transactions, including business combinations, take-over bids, public offerings, private placements, metal streaming transactions and stock exchange listings. He also has extensive experience advising on continuous disclosure, mining related disclosure, compensation plans, corporate governance and stock exchange related matters.
Darrell W. Podowski , Vancouver Office
Darrell Podowski is a partner in our Vancouver office and a member of our Securities Group and Mining Group. He practices business, mergers and acquisitions, mining and securities law, advising mining, industrial, entertainment, technology, and biotechnology companies on going public transactions, corporate finance, merger and acquisition transactions and general corporate commercial matters in Canada and internationally.
Carla Potter, Toronto Office
Carla Potter is an associate in our Financial Services Group. Her practice focuses on corporate financing matters, representing both lenders and borrowers involved in domestic and cross-border lending transactions and corporate reorganizations.
Brigeeta C. Richdale, Vancouver Office
Brigeeta Richdale is a partner in our litigation group with an emphasis on securities and regulatory matters, fraud and enforcement proceedings, corporate/commercial disputes and representation of financial institutions and investment advisors. Brigeeta's practice has a strong focus on international asset tracing, conducting investigations with internal and external auditors, enforcement of foreign judgments and orders, Worldwide Mareva Injunctions, Anton Piller orders, and Norwich Pharmacal orders. She has significant experience with litigation resulting from Ponzi schemes, offshore banking and money laundering, fraudulent conveyances, investment fraud, employee fraud and theft, and investment disputes.
Christopher Selby, Toronto Office
Chris Selby practices civil litigation and dispute resolution, with an emphasis on commercial matters, in the Cassels Brock Advocacy Group. He adopts a practical and business-focused approach when advising clients, based on both his academic and “real world” business experience.
Kwaku Tabi, Toronto Office
Kwaku Tabi's practice focuses on all aspects of commercial real estate including project development, acquisitions and dispositions, leasing and secured lending. He is also engaged in residential real estate for power of sale matters. Prior to joining Cassels Brock as an associate, Kwaku was both a summer and articling student at the firm. During this time, he gained valuable experience assisting with a variety of corporate transactions.
Raivo Uukkivi, Toronto Office
Raivo Uukkivi acts for a broad range of private and public sector clients. Raivo advises on decisions or actions that are impacted by municipal law or otherwise arise from the development, use and ownership of land. This includes all aspects of the land use planning and development process from the solicitors work involved in the commencement of an approvals process through to any litigation or controversy that arises from the process.
